This is a magnificent large specimen of black tourmaline in pegmatitic matrix, where schorl crystals are distributed over a light matrix of feldspar and quartz. It is a very representative piece of the classic formations from Minas Gerais.
Main features:
Mineralogical details:
The black tourmaline crystals appear in well-defined aggregates, embedded in a matrix of potassic feldspar with areas of albite and veins of translucent quartz. This mineralogical assemblage is a very typical example of Brazilian pegmatite, appreciated for the marked contrast between the dark crystals and the light host rock.
Points to note:
In pegmatite specimens with exposed crystals it is common for small fragments to detach occasionally, which is characteristic of this type of natural formation.
